'Odyssey' Dominates South Korean Box Office, Market Hits Yearly High

The epic "The Odyssey," directed by Christopher Nolan, dominated the South Korean box office during the weekend of Aug. 7-9. It generated an impressive $10.3 million from 1,333,569 admissions, securing a 45.13% share of the total weekend revenue. Since its wide release on Aug. 5, the film has accumulated $14.4 million.
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" moved to second place in its second frame, earning $9.2 million and pushing its total South Korean gross to $43.7 million. The local animated sequel "Teenieping: Legend of the Whale Heartstone" landed in third place.
Other notable films included "Hope" in fourth and "David" in fifth. The overall market collective gross for the weekend was $22.9 million, surpassing last week's $20.8 million to become the biggest weekend of the year.
