On November 8, 2025, the iconic grunge band Soundgarden was officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, featured a heartfelt tribute from actor-comedian Jim Carrey, who recounted his first experience seeing the band perform live in 1996.
Carrey, who had personally requested Soundgarden as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live that year, described the "dark, epic beauty" of their performance of "Pretty Noose" and how it left him feeling "free" after being "pushed under" by the waves of electricity. The comedian also revealed that the band had gifted him one of his most prized possessions: a Fender Telecaster signed by all four members, including the late Chris Cornell.
Cornell's eldest daughter, Lily, took the stage following a video tribute to her father, delivering a touching speech and acknowledging her mother, Susan Silver, who once managed Soundgarden. The surviving members of the band - Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd, and founding bassist Hiro Yamamoto - were present for the induction, with Yamamoto referencing his family's internment during World War II and the importance of not repeating such stories.
Kim Thayil reflected on Cornell's creative leadership, stating, "If one of us ever hesitated in sharing an idea, Chris would be the first to say, 'Let's just try it out and see.' I miss him. I love him, and I love all my [Soundgarden] brothers." The ceremony concluded with a performance featuring Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless and Brandi Carlile joining the band for some of their iconic songs.
