Sophia Bush Reacts to Surprise Grey's Anatomy Hookup

Sophia Bush, who previously starred in "One Tree Hill," shared her astonishment regarding her character Cass's surprising romantic entanglement with Amelia Shepherd in the "Grey's Anatomy" season 22 finale. Bush revealed her genuine shock upon reading the script, likening the moment to a dramatic gasp.

Cass unexpectedly arrived at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital due to a bridge collapse preventing her travel. She was called upon to consult on the critical surgery of Dr. Nick Marsh, whose past kidney transplant complicated the procedure. Bush emphasized her relief that the character did not face blame for any negative surgical outcome, referencing past controversial plotlines.

Bush commended "Grey's Anatomy" for its depiction of women as intelligent and capable individuals, highlighting Cass's decision to seek expert help from Miranda Bailey for the complex surgery. She also expressed her enjoyment of working alongside Chandra Wilson.

The season finale also featured the departures of series regulars Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman, who decided to move to Paris for Teddy's new job opportunity. Bush acknowledged the narrative space this creates for new trauma surgeons at Grey Sloan.

Reflecting on Cass's character, Bush suggested that Cass's marriage to David might be more of a companionship than a passionate romance, leaving room for further exploration. She appreciated "Shondaland" for its continued willingness to push boundaries and explore relevant, challenging themes. Bush also shared her personal perspective on open relationships, noting her curiosity about the underlying emotional dynamics.

Fans will have to wait until season 23 to see if Bush's character returns to Grey Sloan. The upcoming season is set to premiere in the fall of 2026.
