Puppets from the beloved BBC children's show, The Sooty Show, are now up for auction. The collection features glove puppets of Sooty, Sweep, and Soo, all part of an archive belonging to Matthew Corbett, son of the show's inventor, Harry Corbett.
Harry Corbett, an engineer, created the iconic Sooty character in 1948. The show initially aired in 1955, with Harry presenting until 1975, after which his son Matthew took over until 1992. Sooty has continued in various forms since.
The auction lot includes not only the puppets and a mechanical puppeteer's rod but also DVDs and other memorabilia. A silver-plated tankard engraved with Harry Corbett's initials and a book from his appearance on 'This Is Your Life' are also part of the sale.
Hansons auctioneers have placed an estimated value of £4,000 to £5,000 on the entire collection. The auction is scheduled to commence at 10:00 BST.
