The prestigious Sony World Photography Awards have unveiled their finalists, highlighting the year's most exceptional photographic achievements. This global competition, now in its nearing two decades, received an overwhelming response with over 430,000 submissions from more than 200 countries and territories.
The diverse range of categories, including Portraiture, Street Photography, Travel, and Natural World & Wildlife, features breathtaking work. Among the notable finalists are Irish photographer Shane Hynan's exploration of Celtic bog culture, UK-based Will Burrard-Lucas's wildlife encounters in Kenya, and Argentinian Anita Pouchard Serra's street scenes featuring capybaras.
Photographers from Belgium, Mexico, Poland, the United States, France, South Africa, and Sweden have also been recognized for their compelling visual stories. These include striking images of sighthounds in motion, intimate portraits in fog, polar bears in Canada, cloud formations, and brass band members.
Further recognized submissions capture the essence of humanism, adventurous spirit, and natural beauty. Seamus Murphy's series 'Strange Love' aims for a 'modern call for humanism,' while Marcus Westberg's work features elephants in marshlands. Liam Man's innovative drone-light painting captures a climber on Chile's Leones Glacier.
The 10 category winners are scheduled to be announced on April 16 at Somerset House in London. A public exhibition of selected photographs will then be open from April 17 to May 5, offering the public a chance to experience these award-worthy images firsthand.
