Sony Skates Towards Summer 2027 With New Romance Film

Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures are set to bring Lynn Painter's novel 'Fake Skating' to the screen, with a planned release date of July 16, 2027. Josh Boone, known for his work in romance films, is directing the sports romance adaptation. The screenplay has been handled by Morgan Lehmann and Victoria Bata, with Boone and Knate Lee contributing revisions.

The narrative centers on former childhood sweethearts who experience an unexpected reunion in their hometown, which is steeped in hockey culture. Their reunion takes a turn when they decide to fake a romantic relationship, leading to unexpected emotional thawing. Will Gluck and Jacqueline Monetta are producing the film, with support from executive producers Madison Jones and author Lynn Painter.

'Fake Skating' is positioned to open in a competitive mid-July release window in 2027. It will be released between two major Warner Bros. sequels: the 'Superman' DC installment 'Man of Tomorrow' and Legendary's follow-up to 'A Minecraft Movie.' Boone's prior directorial work includes Paramount's adaptation of Colleen Hoover's 'Regretting You' and the 2014 film 'The Fault in Our Stars.'
