An international touring exhibition, "Songlines: Tracking The Seven Sisters," has arrived at the Humayun's Tomb World Heritage Site Museum in Delhi, showcasing an ancient Australian Aboriginal creation story.
This captivating saga recounts the journey of the Seven Sisters, female ancestral beings, as they flee across desert landscapes pursued by a malevolent, shapeshifting figure. The exhibition draws from five sections of Indigenous Western and Central Desert songlines, utilizing nearly 300 paintings, objects, music, dance, and multimedia to narrate this epic tale of survival and creation.
Developed in collaboration with Aboriginal elders and knowledge keepers, the exhibition presents a rich tapestry of art and culture. It explores themes of desire, loss, solidarity, and trickery, mirroring celestial events like Orion and the Pleiades while emphasizing the profound connection between the land and this ancient story.
