Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh is launching a unique cinematic and mixology event in London, combining his passion for mind-altering movies and the Bolivian brandy, Singani 63. The series, titled "A Man Under the Influence: 63 Days of Steven Soderbergh's Selects," is scheduled to run for 63 days, from September 3 through October 30, at The Whiteley.
This event will feature a curated selection of nine films chosen by Soderbergh, representing a film from each decade that he finds personally and culturally influential. The program follows the sold-out success of a similar event held in New York earlier in the year.
Each Thursday evening, attendees can enjoy a 63-minute happy hour featuring Singani 63 cocktails. Following this, a film will be screened, accompanied by a unique cocktail inspired by the featured movie and created by a different top London bar each week. Soderbergh will also introduce each film via exclusive video.
Films selected include classics like "Trouble in Paradise," "Notorious," and "Jaws," alongside modern influential works such as "Fargo," "Lost in Translation," and "Phantom Thread." Soderbergh's appreciation for Singani 63 began during the filming of "Che" in 2007, leading to the launch of the brand with the Granier family in 2009.
Guests will be the first to try the new "Spiced Soderbergh Sour" cocktail. Starting in late September, this signature drink will be available at all 49 Everyman cinemas across the U.K. Additionally, Singani 63 will be sold at 15 Amathus stores, offering special promotions and tastings.
