18 Oct
Summary
- Jason Sudeikis expressed his desire for Tina Fey to lead SNL.
- He believes the show can thrive without Lorne Michaels.
- Seth Meyers is also a potential candidate for the role.
Jason Sudeikis has voiced his strong support for Tina Fey to take over leadership of Saturday Night Live, should Lorne Michaels step down. Michaels, 81, has not announced retirement, but speculation continues. Sudeikis shared that the thought of Fey leading the iconic sketch show brought him to tears, calling it a "beautiful idea."
Sudeikis also addressed whether SNL could endure without Michaels' guidance. He pointed to the 1980-1985 period when Michaels was not involved, during which the program "barely" survived but ultimately grew stronger. While acknowledging that the show's business and operational aspects might differ, he expressed confidence in potential successors.
"I think you'd be in good hands," Sudeikis stated, mentioning both Fey and Seth Meyers as strong candidates. He concluded that he would only support a transition if Lorne Michaels himself was amenable to it, underscoring Michaels' enduring influence on the show.
