Drunk Uncle Returns: SNL Star's Nerves Exposed

The 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, SNL50, brought together a multitude of stars from the show's extensive history. Bobby Moynihan, a beloved former cast member known for his Drunk Uncle character, recently detailed his experience during a guest appearance on the NCIS: Partners and Probies podcast.

Moynihan admitted that his return to the SNL stage for the anniversary special was a nerve-wracking experience. He cited the presence of series creator Lorne Michaels and acclaimed actress Meryl Streep as major factors contributing to his elevated anxiety.

This sentiment of stress was not unique to Moynihan. Other SNL alumni, including Andy Samberg and Pete Davidson, have also spoken about feeling pressure during the event. Samberg described it as stressful due to uncertainty about his participation and the sheer number of famous faces. Davidson noted the audience comprised many celebrities, adding to the pressure.

Moynihan, who joined SNL in 2008 and departed in 2017, acknowledged the significance of the occasion. Despite having returned to the show prior to the special in 2025, he still recognized the gravity of participating in such a milestone event.

However, not all former cast members had a positive experience. Chevy Chase reportedly remained unhappy about not being featured more prominently, a point even mentioned by podcast co-host Brian Dietzen. Moynihan, conversely, expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to be involved at all.

The SNL50 special is available for streaming on Peacock. The upcoming Season 52 of Saturday Night Live is scheduled to premiere on NBC on September 26, 2026.
