Smashing Pumpkins & Pop Stars Ignite Lollapalooza Stage

Smashing Pumpkins transformed their Lollapalooza headline set in Chicago into a cross-generational event, featuring surprise guest appearances from Olivia Rodrigo and Yungblud on Thursday, July 31. This marked the Chicago-bred band's first time headlining Lollapalooza in 32 years, with their last appearance in 1994. The performance included renditions of deep cuts from their 1993 album 'Siamese Dream' and their 1995 double album 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.'

Yungblud joined the band to perform "Luna," while Olivia Rodrigo sang "Thirty-Three." These guest spots highlighted the significant influence of 90s alternative rock on contemporary artists like Rodrigo and Yungblud. The event also coincided with the upcoming 30th anniversary of 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness,' an album that remains the band's commercial peak, having debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The band is set to embark on "The Rats in the Cage" tour beginning September 30.
