Hanyu Wong, a talented skater, is preparing for a significant US tour with Disney On Ice later this year. He gained recognition for practicing his skills in Nottingham's Old Market Square during the Covid-19 pandemic when ice rinks were closed. This unique practice environment, captured in viral videos, was a testament to his dedication.
Wong's journey with Disney On Ice began with a short-term contract last year, leading to performances across Europe. He has since secured a longer contract for a nine-month tour across the United States. During the shows, he will portray a starfish in 'The Little Mermaid,' a seagull in 'Frozen,' and a donkey in 'Encanto,' a role he particularly enjoys for its quirky and sassy dance movements.
His dedication to ice skating, which started at age 16, was nearly derailed by pandemic-related closures of the National Ice Centre in Nottingham. Undeterred, Wong adapted by using his roller skates in the city's Old Market Square. He credits these sessions for helping him achieve his dream, offering encouragement to others: "Do what you love, never give up and keep going."
