A new adaptation of the 1990s psychological thriller 'Single White Female' is underway, with Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell attached to star. The project, titled 'Single Female,' will be penned by screenwriter Sarah DeLappe. Producers Stacey Sher and Marisa Paiva are also involved, indicating significant studio support.
The film revisits the premise of the successful 1992 original, which explored the growing unease of a woman toward her new roommate's increasingly strange behavior. The original achieved considerable box office success and boosted the careers of its lead actresses.
DeLappe brings acclaimed writing experience, having previously worked on the horror-comedy 'Bodies Bodies Bodies' and the award-winning play 'The Wolves.' Veteran producer Sher has a notable filmography including 'Contagion' and 'Django Unchained.' For Paiva, this marks a major producing role after extensive executive experience.
Ortega is currently filming the third season of Netflix's 'Wednesday' and has upcoming projects including 'Klara and the Sun' and 'The Great Beyond.' Russell will appear in the Korean thriller 'Hope' and recently debuted on stage in 'The Effect.' Her breakout role was in 'Bones and All.'
