Veteran filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao returns to the director's chair at the age of 94 with his latest venture, 'Sing Geetham.' This musical fantasy, produced by Nag Ashwin, is scheduled for an OTT release on Netflix starting July 9, 2026. The film will be available in its original languages, plus Kannada and Malayalam versions.
'Sing Geetham,' Rao's 61st directorial project, is set in the fictional kingdom of Kuberapura. The narrative centers on Pratap, who returns to his ancestral village after his father's death. He becomes embroiled in a conflict to protect the village's sole surviving tree, considered the spiritual heart of Kuberapura by Gowri. However, Renu and her father pursue destructive mining activities, endangering the sacred tree.
The film has garnered attention for its strong social message and emotional core, exploring themes of greed, environmental destruction, and urbanization. Critics have noted that while its commentary on capitalism and ecological impact is direct, it remains effective due to its genuine concern. Vijay Deverakonda also makes a cameo appearance in this unconventional musical.
