Summary
- Film critiques Singapore's obsession with wealth and conformity.
- Parallel romantic crises unfold for father and son.
- The story contrasts luxury hotel dreams with cramped reality.

Director Anthony Chen returns to family drama with a warm yet forthright film set in Singapore. The movie critiques the city-state's obsession with wealth, conformity, and Western prestige.
The narrative centers on Junyang, a young man adrift after military service, and his father, Boon Kiat. Junyang faces impending fatherhood after a romantic getaway with his girlfriend Lydia, while Boon Kiat finds love with a bar waitress named Bee Hwa.
Both father and son face parallel romantic crises, culminating in two weddings. The newly formed families are forced to live together in a small apartment, a stark contrast to the luxurious Marina Bay Sands hotel where Junyang and Lydia lost their virginity.
Junyang, now working as an estate agent, chases the dream of selling opulent beachfront properties. However, his pursuit of wealth proves illusory, mirroring the unreliable promises of entrepreneurial ventures and social media sales.
