The award-winning drama 'It's a Sin' is being reimagined as a dance production by the U.K.'s Rambert dance company. The series, which documented the impact of the HIV/AIDS crisis on young gay men in London from 1981 to 1991, will be brought to life through choreography.
Russell T. Davies, the creator of 'It's a Sin', will serve as an executive producer for the dance adaptation. He is collaborating with pop duo Pet Shop Boys and Glyn Fussell on the project. Rambert's artistic director, Benoit Swan Pouffer, will direct and choreograph, with Kaite O'Reilly acting as dramaturg.
This new dance work is a co-production between Rambert and Factory International. It is scheduled to premiere at Aviva Studios in Manchester. While specific performance dates and the cast have yet to be announced, Roman GianArthur is on board as composer and music supervisor, with Luke Halls Studio handling set and video design.
Davies expressed his honor in seeing the show transformed, calling it "something new and exciting." Swan Pouffer highlighted the storytelling power of dance and the urgency of the narrative. The production is also a co-production with Wales Millennium Centre, Capital Theatres, Sadler's Wells Theatre, and Les Théâtres de la Ville in Luxembourg.
