In a major casting coup, rising Bollywood star Siddhant Chaturvedi has been selected to portray the iconic filmmaker V Shantaram in an upcoming biopic. The announcement comes as the producers and director were initially skeptical about Siddhant's ability to capture the essence of the doyen of Marathi and Hindi cinema, given the generational gap between the two.
However, Siddhant managed to win over the filmmakers with his meticulous preparation for the role. The actor reportedly watched all of Shantaram's classic films, from Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani and Do Aankhen Barah Haath to Navrang and Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, before the audition. This deep dive into Shantaram's filmography impressed the producers, who then decided that Siddhant was the perfect choice to bring the legendary director's life story to the big screen.
The biopic, to be directed by Marathi actor-director Abhijeet Deshpande, is set to begin filming in March 2026. The project will be officially announced on V Shantaram's birth anniversary on November 18, 2025, giving fans a chance to look forward to this highly anticipated cinematic tribute to one of India's most influential filmmakers.
