Singer Rejects Bollywood Songs Over Sexist Lyrics

Singer Shreya Ghoshal has revealed her past decisions to reject Bollywood songs featuring inappropriate lyrics, even if they became massive hits. She explained that the problem lies within the music industry's structure, which she perceives as "very male-heavy" and patriarchal.

Ghoshal elaborated that certain songs were deemed unsuitable not just for their lyrics but also for their composition and singing style. She noted a trend where female singers were often assigned romantic duets or songs that were considered "male songs," while the more prominent tracks were sung by male artists.

She further discussed the fine line between sensuality and objectification, stating she would not take on overtly objectifying songs today. This stance is influenced by observing young children singing such lyrics, which she finds concerning due to their lack of understanding and potential negative impact.
