Shropshire Festival Steam Rally Dodges Fire Risk Thanks to Rain
28 Aug
Summary
- Recent rain eased fire risk concerns for the 65th Shrewsbury Steam Rally.
- The festival expects 16,000 visitors over the August bank holiday weekend.
- Over 200 vintage vehicles, including steam engines and tractors, will be featured.

Organizers of the Shrewsbury Steam Rally in Shropshire have expressed relief as recent rainfall has substantially diminished fire risk concerns for the upcoming event. This year marks the rally's 65th anniversary, scheduled to take place on Sunday and the August bank holiday Monday at Onslow Park.
Earlier in August, the festival had imposed a complete ban on barbecues and open fires, citing the elevated fire risk from a preceding period of hot, dry weather. While this ban will be maintained, rally treasurer Rob Ball noted that the recent precipitation has been beneficial.
The event anticipates approximately 16,000 attendees and will showcase around 100 vintage tractors, over 110 steam engines, various classic cars and motorbikes, and vintage fairground attractions. Organizers have implemented measures, such as sheeting vehicles, to safeguard the exhibits from the elements.
