Summary
- Original film negatives for Shiva were severely deteriorated.
- Missing audio reels were recovered from surviving prints.
- The cult classic was remastered to stunning 4K with Dolby Atmos.

Annapurna Studios has successfully remastered the 1989 crime-thriller Shiva for a grand theatrical re-release, boasting 4K visuals and Dolby Atmos sound. The ambitious restoration faced significant challenges due to the severe deterioration of the original film negatives and the complete damage of two reels of the sound negative.
The technical team at Annapurna Studios employed ultrasonic cleaning to make the sticky negatives rollable, followed by an eight to ten-month frame-by-frame cleaning process for the 4K scan. Recovering the lost audio involved an extensive search for surviving prints across the Telugu states, ultimately locating two crucial reels.
Nagarjuna, celebrating Annapurna Studio's 50th anniversary, expressed his delight at the remastered Shiva's stunning presentation, highlighting its status as a cult classic. The film, originally a box office success, was previously screened at the 13th IFFI in 1990.
