Shirley Ballas: Mom's the best roommate!

Shirley Ballas, the head judge of Strictly Come Dancing, finds immense joy in living with her 88-year-old mother, Audrey Rich, in south-east London. Ballas, 65, described the arrangement as "the most joyous thing," highlighting her mother's self-sufficiency and her role in household tasks like preparing meals and doing laundry.

Ballas recently ended a six-year relationship with Danny Taylor, who was 13 years her junior, citing "unforgivable behaviour." Reflecting on her past relationships, she noted a tendency to care for boyfriends, unlike her independent mother. She also addressed the societal double standard where older men with younger partners are celebrated, while women face judgment.

Looking ahead to the new season of Strictly, Ballas expressed excitement about working with new hosts Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe, and comedian Josh Widdicombe. She mentioned her mother's resilience, having survived colon cancer and living with COPD, and their shared pride in embracing technology, which has helped her mother manage her medication. Ballas continues to use technology to stay connected with her son and grandson who live in California.
