Matsumoto, Japan—Shin Ohno has secured the top award at the 2026 F.P. Journe Young Talent Competition. His winning entry, the Fuyu-Geshiki (Winter Landscape), is a remarkable handmade pocket watch designed to also function as a table clock. This inventive timepiece combines four intricate complications, such as a quarter-repeater and sonnerie, within a compact ebony and brass case weighing just 122 grams.
François-Paul Journe lauded Ohno's "serenity of the craftsmanship." The award includes 50,000 Swiss francs to support the winner's future projects. Ohno, formerly an engineer at Seiko Epson, developed the watch while working full-time. He has since left the company to pursue his independent watchmaking career, already receiving orders for a refined version of his award-winning piece.
