The new Sherlock Holmes series, 'Young Sherlock', has utilized numerous famous locations in Bristol, transforming them into Victorian London. Broad Street and Underfall Yard are among the sites featured in the mystery thriller, which premiered recently. Supervising Location Manager Deon Du Preez highlighted Bristol's diverse architecture as a key asset, noting that scripts were adapted to best utilize available locations.
The blacksmiths workshop at Underfall Yard in Bristol's harbour side was a setting for an action scene. This site, which experienced an arson attack in 2023, relies on filming revenue for restoration. Win Cnoops, Underfall Yard Site Manager, stated that such income is crucial during this difficult period. Additionally, the series filmed in South Wales and Shepton Mallett, with the latter's historic prison serving as a Victorian London jail.
Prison attraction director Charlie Lawson mentioned that the production's successful transformation of parts of the 17th-century building into a 19th-century likeness was so impressive that they persuaded the crew to leave some areas altered. He described the experience as rewarding, blending history and storytelling tangibly.
