A new European drama series, "The Death of Sherlock Holmes," is set to premiere in 2027, starring Rafe Spall as the iconic British sleuth. The show will explore the untold story of the three years between Sherlock Holmes' supposed death in 1891 and his return in 1894, a period left blank by Arthur Conan Doyle.
The series begins with Holmes' apparent demise at the Reichenbach Falls, but the narrative shifts to the Swiss Alps. There, an Englishman is discovered with amnesia by locals after being found in a mountain stream. When a village doctor is murdered, the amnesiac stranger becomes the only hope for a wrongly accused local boy.
As unsettling fragments of memory surface, the stranger must confront his past and the possibility that he is the legendary Sherlock Holmes. What starts as a local mystery evolves into a broad conspiracy, drawing him closer to the truth of his identity and the name he once bore.
Co-produced by Sky Switzerland, Silver Reel, SRF, ARD Degeto, and Umedia, with international distribution by Sphere Abacus, the drama is inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle's characters. Production has commenced, with filming set against the backdrop of the Swiss Alps.
