The couple agreed to let their children see the movie, which predates their parenthood. Despite its content being deemed "very inappropriate," Shepard revealed the girls thoroughly enjoyed the film, appreciating the chance to see their parents young and in love.

However, the children's reception took a humorous turn when they reacted to the on-screen dynamic between Bell and Shepard. According to Shepard, the girls were particularly critical of Bell's character, labeling her "a bitch." In contrast, they viewed Shepard's character more sympathetically, seeing him as a "good boy" with a past that Bell should overlook. This playful critique elicited laughter from the couple.

Shepard also recently discussed his parenting approach, particularly concerning his daughters' tendency to talk back. He embraces this behavior, viewing it as a crucial skill for self-advocacy. He believes that encouraging his daughters to be disrespectful and talk back, even when seemingly unruly, will empower them to stand up for themselves in challenging situations later in life, such as confronting a difficult boss.
