Shekhar Suman's 'Devdas' Regret: A Missed Role

Actor Shekhar Suman has openly discussed a significant missed opportunity in his career, expressing regret over not accepting a role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's acclaimed film Devdas. Suman stated that he was offered the part of Chunni Lal but had to decline due to his demanding schedule with the television show 'Movers and Shakers,' which aired five times weekly.

Despite this earlier setback, Suman found a valuable connection with Bhansali through the recent series Heeramandi. This collaboration served as a career renaissance for him, introducing his work to a new, younger demographic and providing a fresh lease on his professional life. Suman noted that such roles can significantly extend an actor's relevance.

Beyond his film and OTT work, Suman remains deeply committed to theatre, currently performing in his play 'Ek Mulaqat,' where he portrays Sahir Ludhianvi. Having already completed 125 shows, the play has been met with great audience appreciation. He also previously portrayed Saadat Hasan Manto on stage.

Suman maintains a selective approach to his career, prioritizing quality over quantity. He has consistently chosen projects he values, preferring to rest rather than accept substandard work. This strategy has ensured a steady stream of opportunities across theatre, films, and digital platforms throughout his career, with several new projects expected soon.
