Ultimately, Burgess made the difficult decision to leave Burn the Floor to support her father, who was experiencing health issues in Australia. The long distance and uncertain future of their touring schedules made maintaining the relationship unsustainable, leading to their breakup over Skype.

Burgess acknowledged that this breakup was challenging but noted that it paved the way for Farber's relationship with Emma Slater. She and Farber later found themselves on Dancing with the Stars concurrently, with Burgess participating from 2013 to 2021 and Farber from 2013 to 2024.
