In the lead-up to the American Film Market, sales firm Capture has revealed that the recently wrapped shark thriller 'Above And Below' has secured distribution deals in multiple countries around the world. The film, directed by Jesse V. Johnson, stars Laura Marano, Christina Ochoa, and Antonio Banderas.
The deals include Germany, France, Italy (with Wild Bunch), Spain (YouPlanet), Eastern Europe (MediaSquad), CIS (Arna), Latin America (Gussi), Scandinavia (Mislabel), South Africa (Empire), Greece (Spentzos), Portugal (NOS Lusomundo), Turkey (Mars Film), Indonesia (PT Prima), Malaysia (MVP), and Mongolia (FilmBridge).
'Above And Below' follows a group of five close friends who set off on a tropical holiday to embark on a thrilling shark cage diving experience. Unbeknownst to them, the trip is a front for a criminal operation led by the ruthless Burns, played by Antonio Banderas. As the situation spirals out of control, a deadly confrontation leaves two of the friends, Tatiana (Marano) and Kaley, trapped in shark-infested waters with dwindling oxygen. With time running out, the two must rely on their skills to fight against the dangerous predators below and Burn's violent crew above.
The film is produced by Spain's AF Films and financed by AF Films and Christian Mercuri's Capstone Pictures. Director Jesse V. Johnson has an extensive background as a stunt performer, having worked on films like Mission Impossible III, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and the 2012 Total Recall remake.
