Hansal Mehta's National Award-winning film Shahid, released theatrically in 2013, is now accessible for streaming on Prime Video. The drama, starring Rajkummar Rao in the titular role, is based on the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi, who was assassinated in 2010. The film earned Rajkummar Rao a National Film Award for Best Actor and Hansal Mehta a National Film Award for Best Direction.
Produced by Bohra Bros, Shahid depicted Azmi's commitment to defending those accused under terror laws and ensuring due process. For producer Sunil Bohra, the film was a personal project made with limited resources, requiring him to borrow funds at high interest. He reminisces about the beautiful journey and cherished experience of working with director Hansal Mehta.
Actress Prabhleen Sandhu, who played Mariam, also recalled her time working on the film as a significant experience. With its debut on Prime Video, Shahid is now available to a wider audience, bringing renewed attention to its impactful storytelling and performances.
