Selena's Widower Reflects on Her Iconic Rise and Creative Passions

In the upcoming Netflix documentary "Selena y Los Dinos," Selena Quintanilla-Pérez's widower, Chris Pérez, is providing a rare look into the life of the "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" singer. Thirty years after Selena's untimely passing at the age of 23, Pérez, now 56, is reflecting on his late wife's meteoric rise to fame as the Queen of Tejano music.

Pérez, who was the lead guitarist in Selena's band, recalls that the constant touring and busy schedule took a toll on the singer. "Selena was always going, always on, and I think road life started to become pretty busy, pretty hectic," he says in the documentary's exclusive clip. Rather than scaling back, Selena found a new creative outlet in fashion design and costuming.

"Doing the designing was something that made her happy," Pérez explains. "She would set some time aside -- quiet time. She would have her sketch pads and she would start going to town." Selena's passion for design soon became an integral part of her performances, as some of the band's most iconic outfits were drawn by the singer herself.

As Pérez points out, "Some of our outfits that we wore onstage were drawn by her." Selena's dedication to her craft and her unwavering pursuit of creative expression are a testament to her enduring legacy as a musical icon.
