7 Jul
Summary
- Seattle's Harbor Island Studios is secured for one year.
- CREATE48 Media Network takes over management of the studio.
- King County seeks a long-term solution for the space.

Harbor Island Studios, a vital 89,000 square-foot public asset in Seattle, has secured a one-year operational agreement. CREATE48 Media Network, known for supporting West Coast film initiatives, will manage the facility through this period. This arrangement ensures the studio's continued support for King County's film industry and creative economy.
King County Executive Girmay Zahilay expressed gratitude for finding a nonprofit partner to maintain momentum. The studio, described as the only publicly owned soundstage in the region, has supported over 160 productions. It is currently undergoing a "surplussing process" owned by the Department of Natural Resources and Parks.
While the one-year lease offers immediate stability, King County is actively collaborating with community stakeholders and councilmembers to identify a long-term government or private entity to acquire the space. Councilmember Claudia Balducci emphasized the ongoing commitment to finding a sustainable future for local film production.
