Sean Gunn Too Old for Rocket Motion Capture

Sean Gunn has announced his retirement from performing the motion reference for Rocket Raccoon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, citing physical limitations.

"Since I've turned 50 a couple of years ago, I am retired from playing Rocket," Gunn stated. He elaborated that the repetitive motion-capture work, which involved a deep crouch and pivoting on his feet and ankles, had taken a toll on his physiology over the years. While his knees are fine, the strain on his feet and ankles led to his decision.

Gunn, who also portrayed Kraglin in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise, has been active in the DC Universe. He voiced Weasel in James Gunn's "The Suicide Squad" and also voices G.I. Robot in the animated series "The Creature Commandos." Furthermore, he appeared as Maxwell Lord in "Superman" and reprised the role in "Peacemaker."

With his brother James Gunn now heading the DCU, Sean Gunn's future in the MCU remains uncertain. While "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" indicated Star-Lord's return, the future appearances of characters like Rocket are unclear. Gunn suggested that a younger actor could take over the demanding motion-capture duties for Rocket.
