Summary

- Patrick Dempsey was set to reprise his role as Mark Kincaid.
- Production faced a recasting due to unknown scheduling or financial reasons.
Production for Scream 7 has seen a significant character recasting, affecting the role of Mark Kincaid, Sidney Prescott's husband. Joel McHale was initially cast as Mark Evans, the husband of Neve Campbell's Sidney, in the upcoming sequel.
However, McHale revealed on the Inside of You podcast that Patrick Dempsey was originally intended to reprise his role as Detective Mark Kincaid from Scream 3. McHale described arriving at production to find Dempsey's nameplate on his assigned chair, indicating the last-minute change. The specific circumstances behind the recasting, whether related to scheduling conflicts or financial negotiations, are not publicly known.
Fans had widely speculated that Sidney's husband, mentioned in Scream 5 (2022), was Dempsey's character, given their on-screen chemistry in the third installment. Dempsey himself had previously indicated in early 2024 that he was in discussions to return for Scream 7, awaiting a script.
