Scarpetta finale: Kay alone as killer closes in
16 Mar
Summary
- Kay covered up a past killing, straining family ties
- All family members abandon Kay by season's end
- Kay beats present-day killer with a baseball bat

Prime Video's adaptation of Scarpetta concluded its first season with a shocking revelation: Dr. Kay Scarpetta (Nicole Kidman) herself is a killer. The season finale exposed a quarter-century-old secret where Kay, with the help of her brother-in-law Pete Marino, covered up her self-defense killing of a serial killer in the 1990s.
This buried truth has fractured Kay's relationships. Her husband, Benton Wesley, seeks a divorce, her niece Lucy rejects her, and her sister Dorothy has moved out. Kay is left completely isolated as the present-day serial killer targets her.
In a violent confrontation, Kay bludgeons the current killer, Officer August Ryan, to death with a baseball bat. The season ends on a cliffhanger as a mysterious figure enters Kay's home, finding her covered in blood.
Filming for the second season, adapting Patricia Cornwell's "Cruel and Unusual" and "The Body Farm," has begun in Nashville, with the series slated for a return around March 2027.
