Savannah Guthrie to Host NBC's Wordle Game Show

Savannah Guthrie will be taking a temporary break from her role on the 'Today' show to host NBC's upcoming "Wordle" game show. The show, a joint production between Universal Television Alternative Studio and Jimmy Fallon's Electric Hot Dog company, is expected to air in the new year. Guthrie announced her departure from 'Today' will last for a few weeks while she travels to film the entire season.

Filming for the "Wordle" game show was originally scheduled for March but was postponed. This delay was attributed to personal family matters, including the disappearance of Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, from her Arizona home in February. Guthrie conveyed her appreciation to NBC, Jimmy Fallon's production company, The New York Times, and Universal for their patience and support during this challenging time. She noted that they "stopped everything and said, 'We'll wait for you.'"

Fallon officially announced Guthrie's hosting role on 'Today,' praising her as the perfect fit for the show. Colleagues on 'Today,' including Sheinelle Jones and Craig Melvin, have voiced their enthusiasm for Guthrie's new venture, with Melvin calling her the "perfect host." While Guthrie's absence from 'Today' is confirmed for several weeks, details regarding her exact departure date, return, and temporary replacement remain undisclosed.
