Satyajit Ray's iconic films are captivating Japanese audiences, with seven of his restored classics recently receiving their inaugural theatrical release across the nation. These cinematic gems, including 'Jalsaghar,' 'Mahanagar,' and 'Charulata,' spanned two decades of Ray's illustrious career and were shown from July 25 onwards.
The retrospective, which began at Le Cinema Bunkamura in Tokyo, was extended by an additional week due to immense popularity, demonstrating a significant demand for Ray's work. Screenings were held in major cities like Hiroshima, Osaka, and Kyoto, reaching an estimated 15-20 cinemas nationwide.
