Summary
- Seven Satyajit Ray films released with Japanese subtitles nationwide.
- Kashiko Kawakita was instrumental in promoting Ray's cinema in Japan.
- Restored Ray films screened nationwide, with Blu-ray release in March.

Seven restored Satyajit Ray films have experienced a nationwide release in Japan, including theatrical, VOD, and home video formats with Japanese subtitles. This release, commencing July 25, 2025, in Tokyo, was met with high demand, extending its run and prompting a March 5, 2026, Blu-ray release.
Filmmaker Sandip Ray noted the long-standing connection between Japanese and Indian cinema, tracing it back to the early 1960s and the influence of Kashiko Kawakita, a devoted admirer who facilitated a landmark meeting between Satyajit Ray and Akira Kurosawa in 1966. Ray, in turn, held Japanese cinema in high esteem, particularly Kurosawa's "Rashomon."
Supporting the screenings were explanatory seminars led by Japanese connoisseurs. These events enriched the audience's understanding of Ray's cinematic vision. The initiative's success is viewed as a significant "cinematic event" symbolizing Indo-Japan friendship and a shared cultural disposition toward "existential inquiry."
