Golden Threshold, the historic former home of poet Sarojini Naidu, is undergoing a significant transformation and is poised to become a museum, literary, and cultural center. Renovation work on the building, which serves as an off-campus annexe for the University of Hyderabad (UoH), is nearing its final stages and is expected to be officially handed over to the university within the next month. This development follows the recent handover of a valuable collection of Sarojini Naidu's personal effects to the university by the Telangana endowments department. The treasure trove includes correspondence with prominent global figures, rare photographs with other Indian independence leaders, books, and artifacts.
University officials revealed plans to convert the building into a much-needed literary space in the city's heart, where the newly acquired collection will be put on public display. While renovation funds were partially sourced from Institutions of Eminence (IoE) grants, enabling the restoration of the building to its former glory, further financial support is crucial for establishing the museum and cultural hub. The university is actively seeking Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, as well as grants from state and central governments. The next step involves appointing a curator to oversee the museum's setup. The received collection notably includes letters exchanged between Naidu and the wife of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, among other significant items.
