Sara Cox is reportedly the top contender to succeed Scott Mills as the host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show. Mills was dismissed from the BBC on March 27, 2026, following allegations of serious sexual offenses against a teenage boy between 1997 and 2000. These allegations were reportedly known to the BBC since 2017.
Mills, who was questioned by police in 2018, stated he fully cooperated but the Crown Prosecution Service did not bring charges due to insufficient evidence. The BBC confirmed it obtained new information recently, leading to the termination of his contracts.
Cox, known for her successful drivetime show and previous Breakfast Show stand-ins, is widely considered the 'heir apparent' for the role. Other names like Rylan Clark and OJ Borg are also being considered, while Vernon Kay and Claudia Winkleman have reportedly ruled themselves out.
