- He considered his father and family to overcome the fleeting temptation.
- His first wife, Richa Sharma, died of brain cancer in 1996.
Sanjay Dutt, recalling a past struggle, disclosed that he was tempted to use drugs again only once in his life. This occurred during a deeply challenging period when his first wife, Richa Sharma, was undergoing treatment for cancer.
During an outdoor film schedule, Dutt shared with screenwriter Ranbir Pushp that the distressing situation of his wife's hospitalization momentarily brought back the urge. However, he quickly found strength by envisioning his father, family, and his own life, which dissipated the temptation within a fraction of a second.
Dutt emphasized that by that time, he had become so internally resilient that no external force could pull him back towards drug abuse. Pushp noted that Dutt's devotion to his work during that period was marked by exceptional purity and dedication.
Richa Sharma, an actress, was diagnosed with brain cancer two years after her marriage to Dutt and passed away on December 10, 1996, in New York.
