The Sands International Film Festival commenced its fifth-year celebration on Friday evening. Festival Director Ania Trzebiatowska acknowledged the challenges of launching new ventures, highlighting the festival's consistent moments of magic over the past five years.
The opening night film was John Carney's "Power Ballad," a musical comedy featuring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas. The movie centers on a washed-up wedding singer and a fading boy band star who connect through music. Scottish musician Gary Clark, who composed the score, shared that the film's pivotal song was created just three days before Paul Rudd arrived for production.
This year's Sands Festival, running until April 19, includes headline events such as an onstage conversation with composer Craig Armstrong and sessions with industry professionals like Cinetic founder John Sloss and AGBO's Angela Russo-Otstot. Screenwriter Charlie Kaufman will also participate in a discussion on cinema and poetry.
