Sabrina Elba faces 'racist' London car park encounter

Model Sabrina Dhowre Elba has publicly shared a distressing experience in London, describing a 'racist' and 'hostile' interaction with a driver who hit her parked car. The driver immediately and repeatedly asked Elba, who is married to actor Idris Elba, "Where are you from?" after the collision. Elba, who is Canadian, felt the questioning was intended to challenge her right to accountability.

Elba stated that the incident underscores a concerning trend where public debate about national belonging emboldens individuals. She explained that language questioning who "belongs" or is "too foreign" in the UK translates into social permission for discriminatory behaviour. This, she noted, manifests in ordinary settings like car parks, where strangers feel entitled to interrogate people based on their perceived origins.
