Sabarimala Ritual Dance Unites Devotees in Harmony

The annual Sabarimala pilgrimage season reached its final leg with the vibrant 'Petta Thullal' ritual dance in Erumely on Sunday. Thousands of Ayyappa devotees witnessed this unique celebration of communal harmony as groups from Ambalappuzha and Alangad performed the ceremonial mass dance.

The Ambalappuzha group, after a midday sighting of a Brahminy kite, began their dance. Led by Samooha Periyon N. Gopalakrishna Pillai and accompanied by three tuskers, they performed through the streets. Their procession included a notable reception at the Nainar mosque by the Erumely Mahallu Muslim Jama-at, emphasizing interfaith relations, before they continued to the Sree Dharma Sastha temple.

Later in the afternoon, the Alangad group, under the leadership of Ambadath Pradeep R. Menon, commenced their dance. The festivities at Erumely had begun earlier on Friday with the Chandanakkudam festival at the mosque. With increased pilgrim activity, an additional 200 police personnel were deployed for security and traffic management.
