Sabarimala Film Shoots Banned by Minister
17 Aug
Summary
- No movie shoots allowed at Sabarimala, says minister.
- Permission for Athimanoharam shoot was denied by Forest Dept.
- Only religious films about Lord Ayyappa allowed.

Kerala Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan has definitively stated that movie shoots will no longer be permitted at the holy site of Sabarimala. This firm stance comes after a recent controversy surrounding a potential filming permit for the Mohanlal-starrer 'Athimanoharam'.
Previously, the Travancore Devaswom Board had reportedly issued conditional permission for the 'Athimanoharam' team to film, covering areas from Pampa to Sannidhanam. However, the Forest Department subsequently rescinded this approval, halting the proposed shoot. The minister clarified that only films specifically about Lord Ayyappa or other religious subjects are eligible for permission at Sabarimala, reinforcing existing government policy against using temples for general film production.
'Athimanoharam,' directed by Tharun Moorthy, stars Mohanlal and Meera Jasmine. While a significant portion of the film has already been shot in Thodupuzha and Kochi, the producers had planned to film remaining scenes in Sabarimala, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The film was slated for a December 24 release.
