Sharmila Tagore's daughter reveals faith journey

Saba Pataudi, daughter of Sharmila Tagore and sister to Saif Ali Khan, has spoken about her religious upbringing. She confirmed her mother converted to Islam after marrying Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Saba stated that Sharmila Tagore guided her children in Islam to provide them with a sense of grounding.

Reflecting on her childhood, Saba mentioned that the family observed festivals from multiple religions, including Christmas, Diwali, and Holi. She noted that interfaith marriages within the family, including those of her siblings Saif and Soha, meant religious observance was not strictly followed by anyone.

In a recent interview, Saba expressed her connection to Islam, describing herself as spiritual and associating God with Allah. She clarified that this personal faith does not diminish her respect for other religions. Her mother, Sharmila Tagore, actively taught her about Islam and its practices.

Saif Ali Khan has also discussed religion with his children, Taimur and Jehangir, emphasizing a personal and spiritual approach. He shared that his mother instilled the belief in one God with many names, a principle he now passes on.

The Pataudi family history includes several interfaith marriages, starting with Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore. Saif Ali Khan has also been in interfaith marriages, as has his sister Soha Ali Khan, who noted similar criticisms faced by their family as Saif and Kareena Kapoor.

Saba Pataudi currently works as a jewellery designer and tarot reader, while Saif Ali Khan is set to appear in the film 'Haiwaan'.
