Veteran documentary filmmaker S Krishnaswamy passed away in Chennai last Sunday after undergoing treatment for a heart ailment. He was a pioneering figure in the Indian documentary scene, establishing Krishnaswamy Associates.
During his illustrious career, Krishnaswamy produced more than 900 non-fiction films. Notably, his work "Indus Valley to Indira Gandhi" achieved international distribution by Warner Bros, showcasing the global reach of his productions.
His exceptional contributions were recognized with prestigious honors, including the Padma Shri in 2009, the Dr V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award for Documentary Films in 2020, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the US International Film & Video Festival in 2005. Krishnaswamy also played a significant role in film festival circuits, serving as jury chairman for National Awards and as jury secretary at the International Film Festival of India.
