Ruari Spooner, who will portray Percy Weasley in HBO's forthcoming Harry Potter series, is now part of the cast for 'Bender.' This coming-of-age comedy is currently in production in Ireland over the summer months.
'Bender' is described as a blend of 'Superbad' and 'Derry Girls,' drawing inspiration from Adrian Cunningham's script, which is based on his own late-1970s Dublin experiences. The narrative unfolds against the excitement of an upcoming papal visit, exploring a suburban Dublin family's struggles with financial difficulties during a challenging economic period.
Bill Burr features as a gruff American record-store owner who suggests to a group of teenage outcasts that attending a large open-air mass for the Pope offers their sole opportunity to lose their virginity before graduating. Spooner takes on the role of the leader within this resourceful but ultimately hopeless teenage group, while newcomer Kitty Graham plays an American character.
The film is directed by Michael Medico, with production credits shared by Stephen McCormack, Craig Verdon, and Lesley-Ann Brandt. Filming is actively underway in Belfast.
