Row K's Financial Woes Threaten Film Slate

Row K Entertainment, a new Hollywood distribution label, is experiencing significant financial difficulties less than a year after its launch. Multiple sources report urgent cash flow issues, resulting in months of unpaid bills for vendors and consultants, and leading to work stoppages and legal threats. This crisis endangers the company's film slate, acquired just last summer. Maude Apatow's directorial debut, "Poetic License," initially set for a May release, has been postponed to September, baffling her team and family. The film's producer, Judd Apatow, and star, Leslie Mann, are reportedly concerned.

Row K founders Christopher Woodrow and Raj Singh are at the center of these issues. Woodrow has a past embroiled in a contentious lawsuit regarding alleged fund mismanagement at his former company, Worldview Entertainment. Singh previously served as CEO of National Lampoon. The founders stated they are "evaluating and refining our strategy" and taking a "more measured, disciplined approach." Despite touting backing from MassMutual, sources suggest this is a credit facility rather than direct equity investment, adding to the confusion surrounding the company's capitalization.

The company's initial release, Gus Van Sant's "Dead Man's Wire," underperformed, grossing only $2.5 million domestically against a mid-seven-figure price tag. Row K has reportedly failed to make payments as stipulated in contracts, including for "Poetic License." There are suspicions that Row K may be attempting to force the Apatow team to withdraw from the deal. The company still plans to attend upcoming industry events like CinemaCon and the Cannes Film Festival, and recently announced the acquisition of "Mister," starring Walton Goggins and Chloe Grace Moretz.
