The comedian, aged 64, sought this surgical enhancement following a significant weight loss of over four stone, achieved through GLP-1 medication. This weight reduction resulted in excess skin, particularly around her chin, which O'Donnell felt gave her a perpetually "sad" expression.

O'Donnell, who made a move to Ireland in January of the previous year, explained that the facial changes prompted concerned inquiries from people around her. She noted that despite feeling happy in her new Irish home, her appearance suggested otherwise, and she did not want her face to look "frozen."

Initially, O'Donnell had planned to keep the details of her cosmetic surgery private. However, she felt compelled to be transparent when friends and acquaintances began complimenting her appearance and asking about the reason for her improved look.
