O'Donnell explained that after watching Madonna's 1991 documentary "Truth or Dare," she discovered a shared experience of maternal loss. Both women had lost their mothers at a young age and were named after them, even visiting their mothers' graves to find their own names on the tombstones.

Their friendship continues to this day, characterized by regular conversations about their children and spending time together when Madonna visits New York.
